Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief reviewed by Ra

 

This is my chosen book for book week

Title and author : Percy Jackson and the lightning thief by Rick Riordan

Suitable for ages 10-13

Setting(where and when) : Manhattan, New York in the present year

Plot: Percy Jackson is the son of Poseidon who is one of the big three Hades, Zeus and Poseidon, but he doesn't know it until one day someone steals Zeus' master bolt which is more destructive than any nuclear bomb.  Zeus blames Poseidon but he says he is innocent. Then Zeus claims that he will start a war that will turn earth into a gods' battlefield. Poseidon has no other choice but to claim Percy as his son and Percy is asked if he will accept a quest that may save the world from the gods' wrath.      

Main characters :  Percy Jackson (the hero and son of Posiedon), Grover( Satyr and good friend) and Annabeth (good friend and daughter of Athena)    

Chosen Character(with reason of choosing) : Percy Jackson because he is really cool powers and lives in a very interesting world only he can see and we are also the same age

Why I chose this book : Because it is there is a thrilling series which is based in our world but with a magical twist


HOW TO RIDE A DRAGON STORM BY TYSON



This is my book, and it is by Cressida Cowell,

This book is set in the ocean.

Suitable ages 10 to 12

The story is about Hiccup having to do a big swimming race and it is to see who can swim the furtherest out and make it back alive there are killer dragons,freezing cold water and they are in full body armour and weapons on as well.            

His crazy grandfather wants him to stay out in the sea and not return for three months five days and six hours.
But a dragon kidnaps Hiccup, Fish legs and Kamikaze and takes him to Norbert the nut job and his crew of pirates.

Norbert is traveling to America an plans on killing Hiccup when he gets there.
Meanwhile Mad Guns has won and the only hope is that Hiccup makes it back alive.

My favorite character is Toothless because he is small, looks cool and is helpful.

SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, reviewed by Myriina



In the imaginary past

Plot: About a beautiful girl and a Queen that wants to kill the princess Snow White comes across a cottage  and decides to clean it up and doesn't know that it belong to small, but very intelligent  dwarfs. They first meet her when she was laying on one of the dwarfs' beds as she is very tired after cleaning all day. Then one fine day Snow White finds this handsome prince and falls in love with him.   They have planed to see each other under the apple tree and will meet him after she cleans the cottage.When Snow White had finished cleaning she goes out and finds the prince and   she comes across the Queen who is disguise as a very ugly old woman and says that if she eats the apple she gets happiness so Snow White bites the apple and fall into a dark sleep. The dwarfs get worried and search for Snow.   They find her under the tree and all lift her up and carry her back to the cottage and only her true love can awake her with just one kiss, so they set out to find the prince and they found him.   They tell him that Snow White has fallen into a dark sleep,  so he quickly races back to the cottage and kisses her and she awakes and she tells him that the queen gave her an apple and the prince kills the queen and they live happily ever after.

I have chosen sleepy one of the dwarfs the reason I have chosen him is because you don't have to dress to fancy and you only have to wear your pj's and bring a pillow.

I have chosen this particular book because you have a lot of characters to choose and it's a great book with heaps  of things you wouldn't imagine

This book is suitable for 8 and up.
This book is set in Freak street and came to the library in 2008.
It's science fiction and is set in a planet far far away.
The story is about Andy teasing Arlene about her liking the naughty boys.
The main characters are Arlene,Andy,Mrs Alienson,Mr Alienson.
I chose Arlene as my favourite because she likes singing.
I chose this book because it is funny and cool.

SHIPWRECK ON THE PIRATE ISLANDS reviewed by Dane

My book is written by Geronimo Stilton
Age suitable for : 7 and up
Setting : on an island surrounded by sharks
Story : Geronimo decided to go on a nice holiday. But his sister wanted to go on an adventure to the pirate islands. Geronimo's nephew Benjamin and his cousin Trap went with  him and his sister to the pirate islands. Geronimo is a mouse. He lives in New Mouse city.
Main characters : Geronimo Stilton, Thea Stilton, Trap Stilton and Benjamin
Chosen character : Thea Stilton is really adventurous and she likes to go on dangerous holidays
Why I chose this book: It has cool pictures and its funny.

It is a great book because it's cool and wicked.

THE SECRET OF CACKLEFUR CASTLE BY GERONIMO STILTON reviewed by Sherly, R5

Age suitable : 7 and up
Setting : on a creepy castle
Story: Geronimo Stilton has not wrote any books lately so everyone asked why he didn't write any books lately.   He said that he didn't have enough time.
Then the phone rang.   It was Creepella .  They are all mice in the story.  Creepella wanted Geronimo to be her boyfriend and Creepella stole him to her castle .  Geronimo lives in new mouse city where he works at the Rodent's Gazette.
Main Characters: Geronimo Stilton, Trap Stilton, Thea Stilton, Benjamin Stilton and Creepella Von Cacklefur
My chosen character : Thea Stilton because she's the smart one
Why I chose this book : It's creepy and funny

It is a great book because it's really awesome and enjoyable.

MR. GUM AND THE BISCUIT BILLLIONAIRE, by Andy Stanton reviewed by Karen


There's this gingerbread man with electric muscles, see? And he's as rich as a mushroom, right? And it's up to Polly  to save the day. And there's a fun fair and hot dogs. I really enjoyed this book and I think you would too.

Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator reviewed by Josh, Room 5

The main characters are Charlie Bucket,  Mrs and Mr Bucket,  Mrs Tibs,  Mr Willy Wonka
The story is set in The Chocolate factory.                                                         
It is the second of Charlie and the Chocolate factory and at the end Willy Wonka asks Charlie if he wants to stay at the chocolate factory.
Suitable for age 9 and above.
My favorite character is Charlie Bucket
I chose this book because I think Roald Dahl is funny and cool.

BUBBLE TROUBLE , reviewed by George, R 6

My book is suitable for 6 to 8 years old and the author is Margaret Mahy. It is Set in NZ at Little Mabel's house. The story is about a baby in a bubble which drifts away.
The main character is Little Mabel.  I chose this character because he is a good guy.  I chose this book because it is funny.

Lola and Charlie I Don't Feel Sleepy. Not one Little Bit, by Lauren Child, reviewed by Makayla, R 6

My book is suitable for 6 years and up

The setting is in Charlie's and Lola's house.

Lola does not feel sleepy,  not one little bit.  At 12.00 or even at 13.00 in the morning, she made Charlie give three imaginary tigers' pink milk.  He watched a lion gobble up his tooth brush, and also had to help Lola shoo a whale down a plug hole.  Plus he had to phone two dancing dogs about pyjamas and had a hippo sleep in his bed.  Goodness me!!

The main characters are  Lola and Charlie

HARRY POTTER and the DEATHLY HALLOWS reviewed by Shanti

 

This book is suitable for ages 11 and up.
This story is about Harry Ron and Hermione who are looking for horcruxes, magical symbols.
The main characters are Harry, Ron,  Hermione Voldemort and Snape .
I chose Snape because you don't know whether he is good or bad.
I chose this book because it is the best book ever.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl, reviewed by Cadyn

The main characters are Charlie Bucket, Mr Bucket, Mrs Bucket, Mr Wonka, Grandpa Joe, Grandma Joesphine, Grandpa George, Grandma Georgina.
Charlie finds some moeney in the gutter and goes to the shop and buys a Wonka chocolate bar.  He opens it and he gets a golden ticket and goes to his house and shows his two Grandmas , Grandpas , Mum and Dad .  Grandpa Joe traces Charlie to Wonka's Chocolate Factory and Charlie wins the factory .
 I chose this book because Roald Dahl is a good writer

A Puzzle for the Secret Seven, by Enid Blyton, reviewed by Amy

This book is suitable for ages 8 up.
The setting of this book is at a carnival and then on a hill.
The local carnival was on and the Secret Seven went.  On the way back they saw a fire.  At the carnival they got some gingerbread from a lady and it was her house that was on fire.  Her husband stole a violin and gave it to his son.  The Secret Seven found out and helped them pay for it.
The main characters are Colin,George, Janet,Barbara and Peter.
My chosen character is Janet because she is really cool.
I chose this book because I have never read the Secret Seven.

Dear Alison, a Diary, reviewed by Michaela

This story is about a man Dudley.   He started a very special diary.  Dudley was 42 and a prisoner of  war in Stalag  when he wrote this diary for his niece Alison who was four and living in Timaru. With humor entries, sketches and what he called little men Dudleys story grew until it became an unbelievable account of his time served in two prisoner of war camps.  The diary survived the war and now serves as a poignant account of one New Zealand soldier's determination to survive at all costs.

GERONIMO STILTON A CHRISTMAS TALE reviewed by BRIGHT

My book is written by Geronimo Stilton.
Age: suitable for 9 and up
Setting: In New Mouse city at Christmas
Geronimo the mouse plans a Christmas party.  He invited his friends and family. But they refuse to come.  So Geronimo  decided to have the Christmas party anyway.  But it ends up that he wasn't by himself after all.
Main characters:  Geronimo Stilton, Thea Stilton, Trap Stilton and Benjamin Stilton
Chosen character:  Benjamin Stilton is my favorite character because he is clever, has  manners and is funny and cute.
I chose this book because they made wobbly words and have colorful words too.

My Favourite book and my Dragon's Egg story, by Tasha

This Monster book is one I have just read, during book week.  It is called 'When a Monster is Born"



I am am writing a story about another monster's egg.
One day I walked nervously into a dark and scary cave .
I saw a green and blue egg .
Suddenly I saw a bear. The bear ran out of the cave .
I sprinted into the cave and I snatched the egg.
I raced outside and quickly ran home.
"MUM! DAD! I found an egg, can I keep it?" I asked
"Yes", answered mum "I just love the green and blue on it"
My Dad asked " Where did you find it?"
"In a cave", I replied.
"Did you see anything else?'
Yes I saw a big bear. I replied.   
"Where did you find the cave and did you find anything else?"

PLOT:
The girl doesn't kiss the cow so it doesn't give milk to the children. So the girl kisses the cow so the cow
gives milk to the children again.

Chloe and the Magic Baton by Liarna

SETTING: Stables with the horses

PLOT:
They had a horse competition and Chloe put a magic baton on  Niki the horse.  So it made Chloe and Niki win the horse race.

MAIN CHARACTERS: Chloe Niki Anna Tony

Chloe is mostly the main character and is very clever at horse riding.

WHY YOU CHOSE THIS BOOK
Because it looked interesting and cool so I chose it.
